Rochester Overture is an independent arts publication covering classical music, jazz, dance, and visual arts in Rochester, New York.
Founded in 2026, Rochester Overture exists to bring visibility to the richness of Rochester’s arts community, publishing in-depth reports, artist interviews, previews, features, news, and enterprise stories. We contextualize artists and institutions, document performances, report news, and chronicle artistic life in Rochester, bringing readers in closer connection with the cultural institutions in our city.
Rochester was shaped by a tradition of civic philanthropy that placed the arts at the center of community life — a legacy that created one of the most culturally rich cities of its size in the country. Because of this, the arts are a significant civic and economic sector in our city, deserving of the same rigorous journalism as other subjects of civic importance. Rochester Overture believes that Rochester’s arts community needs to be well represented in the local media landscape and that media coverage is an essential part of Rochester’s arts ecosystem.
Rochester Overture is an independent publication – our coverage is not advertising or marketing. We cover the arts community from a position of editorial independence and are committed to disclosing any potential conflicts of interest to readers. Head to our Ethics Policy for more information.
Rochester Overture is a young publication with big ambitions to cover the breadth of Rochester’s cultural life. As a developing publication, we know we cannot cover everything – Rochester’s arts community is too vast for a single publication to capture in its entirety. Nonetheless, what we can do is cover what we cover well, with expertise, depth, curiosity, and conscientiousness. Our goal is to grow our coverage thoughtfully over time, expanding into new disciplines and communities as our capacity allows, always with quality as our guiding standard. You can help us grow by supporting us!
We welcome story leads. Please contact us. While Rochester Overture is in its early growth stage, we are actively developing sustainable contributor support and welcome pitches from writers interested in shaping the publication’s future.
