The Memorial Art Gallery announced on Thursday, October 8 that its Free For All, Forever campaign to permanently remove the museum’s admission charge will officially begin on May 1, 2027. At that time, all visitors can enter the museum for free.
Current admission is $20 for adults, with reduced admission for senior citizens, college students, and children ages 6 to 18. Children under 5 are free. The museum offers half-priced admission after 5 p.m. on Thursdays and the second Friday of each month.
In a press release, Mary W. and Donald R. Clark Director of the Memorial Art Gallery Sarah Jesse said, “May 1 will be a remarkable day for both MAG and the Rochester community. Removing the economic barrier of an admission fee is the most important action we can take to ensure that generations of community members can enjoy the profound benefits of MAG’s collection and educational programs. By making general admission free forever, we’re not only returning to the public-spirited, educational mission of our museum, but opening the doors wider to the people of Rochester and creating more opportunities for everyone to experience, learn from and connect with art.”
The museum just opened a new exhibit, Hugo McCloud: to everything there is a season. A special exhibit on designer Isamu Noguchi opens in February 2027, which will still be running when the museum launches its free admission initiative.
