Jazz Festival Live – June 27

11:03 PM

Two sides of New Orleans tonight on the free stages. It was a sweet night of music.

I’m headed to the Hyatt late night jam to close out the festival. Keep an eye on our socials for updates on any big names who get up to jam.

9:08 PM

Welcome back to Rochester, alto saxophonist Dave Glasser and trombonist Isrea Butler, both of whom hold undergraduate and master’s degrees from the Eastman School of Music.

8:44 PM

The Count Basie Orchestra is swinging hard, with that bounce that that makes my whole body want to pulse and dance along. And they do it with consummate skill. If only Kodak Hall had a dance floor!

8:03 PM

Holly Cole was classic, Jazz 90.1FM’s Derrick Lucas was honored for his advocacy work around jazz by the City of Rochester, and the Count Basie Orchestra, with two Eastman alums, is about to start. Here are some photos so far.

5:58 PM

I’m awaiting Holly Cole at Kilbourn, but first heard the UR Jazz Ensemble, which was smokin’. I’m really impressed at the expert sound those college kids had together. Final night of the fest, here we go!
