Sudha Brightman is a contributing writer for Rochester Overture. Sudha has made Rochester her home with her family for the past eight years after spending many years wearing different creative hats. Prior to
becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 2012, Sudha was deeply involved in the worlds of media production, stand-up comedy, and performance art in New York City for over a decade. From 1999-2010, Sudha dedicated herself as a film/video media professional by day, working for various media companies and a performing artist by night. Sudha performed regularly in New York City’s top comedy clubs such as Caroline’s, Gotham Comedy Club, and Comedy Cellar. In addition, Sudha performed at cabaret shows highlighting stand-up comedy at clubs
such as Don’t Tell Mama’s and the Duplex. Sudha became of the few South Asian stand-up performers in NYC on a regular basis. Sudha was a producer on two films: a documentary by Deepti Agnew titled "Made in India?," which was submitted into several film festivals, as well as the short "Browntown." Both productions were made by Brownscape Productions, a company she co-founded with Deepti Agnew and Mery Diaz.
When she is not covering the film and performing arts events in Rochester, Sudha practices psychotherapy as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in her private practice. Sudha earned a BFA in film production and drama from Syracuse University and an MSW from Rutgers University.
Films at the intersection of history and modernity are featured at the Ames Amzalak JCC Rochester Jewish Film Festival (RJFF), which runs through Sunday. The festival is celebrating its 26th year.
Tovah Feldshuh, a major Jewish Broadway and television actress, was the subject of a documentary shown at the Rochester Jewish Film Festival on Sunday at the Dryden Theater. Feldshuh was in attendance for a Q&A with director David Serero.
